Introducing the Winterthur Cricket Club

Our History
Founded in 1982 the Winterthur Cricket Club plays cricket in the Swiss town of Winterthur, approximately 25 kilometres east of Zurich and is fully associated to the Swiss Cricket Association (SCA).

Winterthur is one of the few Swiss clubs that play cricket on an official "non-turf" cricket pitch.

Our Ground
Winterthur's home ground is easily accessible by car and by public transport and is located at:

Sportanlage Deutweg - Sportplatz Kreuzplatz
ObererDeutweg
8404 Winterthur

Our season
The cricket season runs from April through to early October. Home matches are usually played on a Sunday and usually begin at 12.30pm. Click on fixtures to find out more about this season's fixtures.
Training night is every Wednesday evening, starting anytime after 6pm and continues until it begins to grow dark and sometimes longer thanks to the floodlights.
And following training there is social gathering in a restaurant local to the ground. Obviously practice does not continue all year round, but the gathering in the evening does! This is usually the best way to meet the regular members of the club.
Winterthur Cricket club participates in the national league, of which it was champions in 2000 and in 2002, the domestic Swiss Cricket Mr. Pickwick Cricket Cup, T20 competition, hosts it’s very own annual cricket festival and travels on tour to European destinations, such as Italy, England Czech Republic and Germany.

Social activities
The club also has quite an extensive social side which has in the past included such events as bowling evenings, BBQs and Brunches, Men's Only Night, Club Ski-Weekend, Bowling and Billiards and numerous other events.

Junior Cricket
Winterthur is also the adopted home of the regional youth team, the Zurich Crickets Cricket Club.

Our Membership
The Club attracts members from all over the county of Zurich, the counties surrounding the lake of Zurich, Thurgau and Schaffhausen.
A modest membership fee is charged to assist in financing the club and its activities (50% reduction for under 18's) and keep the club supplied with its own club kit and the expensive business of renting the ground.
Membership is split into two categories, Active, for those that wish to participate in the cricketing aspect and Passive, for those that are purely interested in the social side.
